BHP web site status
Why is it taking so long to get this site finished? Partially because I've been forced to rethink my business plan. I started this project last year when I was out of work. But now that I have a regular job, I have to scale back my plan a bit. Originally, I had hoped to make computer repair a large part of my business. But lack of time is going to prevent me from promoting that aspect of my business. I enjoy fixing computers and the people who I have helped have been very grateful. But my time is now in short supply. So, I am going to try to focus on the web development piece. It's a challenge when I have such a laundry list of services that I could provide. My primary focus is still going to be the small business owner who wants a professionally managed web site.

27 hours without power
For a computer geek like myself there is nothing worse than a power outage. This past Saturday a storm came through and knocked out power to half the city. I was in the middle of editing my web site when the lights went out. My girlfriend is off on vacation in Texas, so there wasn't much to do besides light a candle and read a book. Many large trees fell over, including one in my backyard. It kind of makes you wonder how long we could get by without our modern conveniences. 27 hours was long enough for me. Anyway, I'm going to work on the site again tonight, hopefully the power will stay on this time.

Hot Midwest Summer
In Wisconsin we rarely have two days in a row where the temp is over 90. This year seems to be the exception. I don't have air conditioning so I have to sleep with a big fan next to my bed. I don't mind too much because I know that in another few weeks the weather will start to turn cooler. At least we don't have to worry about hurricains and earth quakes around here. Right now I'm working on a little javascript programming project for my employer. Soon after that I'm going to get back to work on the Budget Homepage site. But I don't want to miss the nice weather we are having this year either. Send me an email if you have a project you want me to look at. Otherwise, take my advice, drink lots of beer, and try to stay cool this summer.

We now have a working URL
I finally got the URL to work after opening another ticket with my hosting company. I guess I didn't get the first help request submitted properly. I should have done it earlier but I was busy with other things. I guess they did fix something on their end. Anyway, now that the URL is working, I need to finish the site and get it on as many search engines as possible. I like being able to take my time. I won't have that luxury with paying customers. Most people are eager to get their site online once they give me a check. I have to remind them that the Internet is a work in progress and that web sites can be changed easily. So, I'll let you know when there is more to see at www.budgethomepage.com.

DNS Propagation
Still waiting for the DNS propagation of budgethomepage.com. It has never taken this long before. I'm afraid something is not right, so I have opened a service ticket with my usually flawless web hosting company. I'll have to get them on the phone if I can't get to the url by this weekend. Propagation is supposed to happen in 1 to 3 days. Anyway, I hope everyone had fun this past 4th of July weekend. It's a patriotic American holiday. But this year it only made me think about how much everyone in the world hates us. I was in a small town that celebrated with a parade down main street. The scene was rather surreal knowing that money is being wasted and lives are being lost in Iraq and Afghanistan with no end in sight.
