Budget Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving I like to look for ways to save money on our food budget. This year the best deal that I found was a grocery store that gave you a free turkey, 5 lbs of potatoes, dinner rolls, and a bag of frozen vegetables, if you purchased two cases of beer. Now I don't usually buy 2 cases of beer at once, but this was a special occasion, and the deal was too good to pass up. For desert I got two frozen pies for $4, plus free Cool Whip! So, today I will celebrate by having a few well deserved malt beverages while I wait for our turkey to finish cooking.

Budget Editing

This week I am taking some time off from work, but only because the schedule allows it and not because I have anything fun planned. So far this week I have been finishing editing and burning my home movies to DVD. I am starting to appreciate all the effort that goes into a well edited video. If you do it right, no one will notice the editing, and the video will be more enjoyable to watch. Editing six hours of home movies is much more difficult than editing a six hour seminar. A typical seminar will have one camera sitting on a tripod. But a home video can be poorly lit, shaky, and have many other problems that need to be delt with during the editing process. One thing I have learned is that if you have a scene that you are questioning, it is best to delete it, because it will bug you everytime you watch it in the finished product. In other words, keep only the good parts and delete the rest!

Internet Burnout

There was an interesting article that I read this week about how some people are getting burned out on social networking on the Internet. Sites like myspace and blogger where people share useless information about their daily lives have become extremely popular. As with all things like that, people eventually get tired of it and start to look for other more meaningful ways to spend their time. Sometimes I feel that way about the time I spend on the Internet or playing computer games. But we have to do something to occupy our time when we are not working. The time it takes for me to post my thoughts here once a week doesn't amount to much. But, if it helps keep ideas flowing, that's priceless.
