Evel and Charter

I almost forgot to pay my respects to Evel Knievel who passed away last week. He was a hero to a lot of kids from my generation. The History channel had a great documentary called "Absolute Evel: The Evel Knievel Story" about his life, which aired last week.

In addition to cable tv, Charter is also my Internet provider. This week I wanted to mention something evil that they did. Not that what they did was all bad, just a little sneaky. Twelve months ago they moved all of their Internet customers to 3 Mbps without raising the price of their service. Now that the twelve months has expired (and we are all used to the faster connection) they moved everyone to 5 Mbps.

The only problem is that this time they raised the price by five bucks, and the only speed options are 5 Mbps and 10 Mbps. So if you want to lower your monthly bill by switching to a slower speed, you can't. So far 5 Mbps doesn't seem a whole lot different than 3 Mbps. I don't think I download enough stuff to justify $45 per month for Internet access. And on the service bundling they are aways trying to promote, I could heat my home with all of the ads I get in the mail trying to get me to sign up for their phone service. Give me a break!
