Selling Online

This week I posted two Peavey guitar amps on Craig's List. It's always hard to put a price on older equipment. All you can do is search online to see what others have paid. I figure you can always take a lower bid, but you can't ask for more than the list price. I haven't been very successful with Craig's list. I reduced the price of my Datsun 280Z to $1550, but still no takers.

I was looking around on Ebay to see what people were getting for old beer cans. I have 700 cans and 50 foreign bottles that my brother and I collected back in the 70's. I estimate the value at around $1000. The problem is that no one around here is likely to pay even a fraction of that amount. One idea that I am considering is selling the best 100 cans on Ebay and then listing the rest on Craig's List. There are a few rare cans that could fetch enough to cover most of the value of the collection. Rare, mint condition beer cans have sold for $1000 or more on Ebay. It's been a while since I was into can collecting, so I'm not up on the value and ratings system, but I figure placing groups of cans up for bid would be the best way to go. There are 14 cone tops which are all in poor condition. If I was thinking more like an investor back then, I would have tried to get my hands on a few cone tops in better condition. About 400 cans are in excellent condition, 140 are in good condition, 80 are in poor condition, and 80 are foreign cans. My rating system isn't very sophisticated, but I did put the whole collection into a spread sheet about ten years ago. That makes it easier to figure out what you have.
