New Machine Shop List

I registered the domain "machineshoplist" dot com and moved the Midwest Machine Shop Network database to this location. The plan is to expand the machine shop database to include all of North America instead of just the Midwest region. If I expand further, this URL will work for for that too.

It's been online since early September, with the traffic being aided by a Google ad. So far, nobody has submitted any new shops, so I will be adding a "quick submit" form which will make it easier for someone to send a URL rather than fill out the larger shop submission form. I think that for machine shops that already have the same information on their website, it will be easier for them to just submit a web address than filling out the standard submission form. The database is now accepting submissions from states outside of the Midwest.

I may also add a mini-blog which will allow me to post progress reports as this site will be under development for some time. But, it may just be easier to setup a wordpress blog and allow people to post under various machine shop topics. I think there are a lot of features that can be added to make the database more useful. There seems to be interest in buying and selling used tools and machinery. Ultimately, it has to be better then what the search engines can offer, or people will just "google" what they are looking for, rather than using a dedicated site. There are a few other machine shop listing sites, but they are not very user friendly. There is always competition for traffic on the web. You just have to find a way to make your site better than the other guys.
