Web site development clients

So far I have not had a single inquiry from anyone interested in a web site. I blame it on the fact that I haven't advertised anywhere other than the web. Actually, I have my hands full right now trying to keep up with the homework from my web design class. From what I have found it takes a while before the search engines get your site listed. The one client I have, started getting more results after his site had been around for a year. I hope to have at least a few more clients by this time next year. I would really like to be able to make a living doing this kind of work. But I seriously doubt that it will ever happen. Someday I might find a way to generate enough online income to do this full time. But if that happens it will be the result of something I haven't thought of yet.

Back to school and business

Enough of my unsaleable comments on world affairs. It just attracts spammers anyway. I've been busy with work and school lately. Taking an online class in web design is kind of like self punishment for all of the nonconstructive things I have ever done on the net. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to work nine hours a day then go home and do two or three hours of homework every night. But I know it will make me a better web designer in the long run. We had to find a real business as our client project. So basically I'm doing a free web site for someone. The business I chose is run by someone who I work with. They already have a web site but it needs to be redesigned and properly promoted. I have confidence that it will turn out well. I hope I don't get frustrated with the slow pace of development as we do endless research assignments on business web sites and design principles.

Don't forget the 9/11 Anniversary

Now that they have started to recover bodies from New Orleans, I've been hearing more about the 9/11 anniversary. I just hope the hurricane hasn't redirected resources away from homeland security. I heard a reporter ask an interesting question today. The question was to one of the Generals down in New Orleans. "Would the government response have been different if this had been a terrorist attack?" The answer was yes. I thought that was the right answer considering who is responsible for disaster planning at the state level. The Governer of each state takes on a lot of that responsibility. It was interesting to hear the Governer of Lousianna defend himself and how everyone is blaming FEMA for the delay in responding to the crisis. Much of the recovery will be paid for by donations. But I'm afraid I will need that money to pay for food and fuel in the cold winter months ahead.

Thoughts on the Katrina Disaster

I've been watching the horrific scenes from New Orleans this week, along with everyone else, and can't imagine what it must be like for the people who lost everything in that storm. A lot of people are saying that our government did not reacted quickly enough. I think this event has shown us just where their priorities really lay. We have some serious problems in this country that are not being addressed properly. It's time to put some resources into solving our internal problems and stop messing with people half way around the world that we don't even know. I'm sure there will be much debate in the aftermath of this tragic event. Lets hope something changes before the next disaster strikes us.
