Just when I thought I was going to make it through the cold and flu season, I came down with a cold that kept me home for a few days this past week. I tried to work on Friday, but it was too hard to think about technical problems with a head cold. But today, I'm feeling much better.
Someone sent an email question to my girlfriend's student loan web page this week. Of all the web sites that I manage, for some reason that one gets the most traffic. I guess there are a lot of people out there with student loan problems. It also helps that the page comes up in 4th place when you search on "student loan story" in google. So, I thought it would be interesting to start a forum where people could vent their student loan questions and complaints. The student loan forum is running on free software called simple machines forum. I have never used SMF before, but I am impressed with how easy it was to install and configure. I have tried message boards before, but usually end up shutting them down after a while because the only posts are spams. Even this blog was getting spam until I restricted the posts to members only. We will see how it goes. I have solved a lot of problems by reading forums, so I'm hoping that it will be successful.
As a follow-up to last week's post, I have noticed that job postings are becoming more plentiful. Specifically, employment ads for web design, technical support, and cad design (my areas of interest) are appearing online and in local papers. This is another good sign of the economic recovery. But for investors, it's a lagging indicator, which is probably already priced into the stock market. I wouldn't expect huge gains when better unemployment figures finally come out.
