After surviving countless layoffs for over 24 years in the electronics industry, one finally got me. I saw this coming over a year ago when a large customer stopped sending us new work. I can't say much more than that because they made me sign an agreement not to say anything that would make them look bad. So with that, we move on as best we can.
Since I now have lots of time on my hands, I can take another shot at monetizing blog posts and selling stuff online. I just read an article about a husband and wife who quit their jobs and now make $100k per year from their blog. It took a couple of years of hard work for them to get to that level. And then, as I have found, you have to keep at it or your revenue streams will dry up. Nothing ever stays the same for very long on the Internet. A simple search engine change can cause your ranking to drop. Or, a new policy can cause your ads to stop running.
What's hot right now? I think cell phone apps are still popular. Video blogging, podcasts, and creating streaming video channels for the Roku are also great ways to make money online. With apps, you have to have some programming skill. With video blogging you have to have some communication skills, and you need access to original content to create a video streaming channel. All have their unique requirements. For now, my plan is to turn budgethomepage.com into an advise blog for people who want to save money. There will be tips on fixing things yourself, shopping for bargains, and investing for the future. Once that is done, the next step is to update machingshoplist.com and allow companies to display logos in their ads for a fixed fee.
